A shared bedroom for two little boys, with vintage furniture and handmade bed canopies

Second-hand vintage beds were the starting point for this shared boys’ bedroom. Found through Marktplaats.nl, the beds were at opposite ends of the country! I arranged a little road trip with a man with a van and we managed to pick up various other vintage pieces along the route.

The room is more than 3.5 metres tall, so the furniture felt a bit lost in the space. The space was crying out for some bed curtains to soften the room and make it feel cosier.

I spotted this enormous roll of fabric in the closing-down sale of a local fabric shop. The roll had exactly 18 metres (x 1.5 m width), which was the perfect amount to create two 3-metre-tall, 3-curtain wide bed canopies. Better yet, the roll of fabric was a fraction of the original price.

A DIY wall canopy kit from Etsy provided the wall brackets and a plastic semi-circle from which to hang the curtains.
